About Peak-Demand time

On our power bill, and probably yours, there is a charge both for the kilowatt hours we use, and a peak demand charge. Your peak demand charge is never large because you don't run a 3000 horsepower electric motor. This peak demand charge is based on how much power you use during any 30 minute period, during the on-peak time, during the month.

The on-peak time is set by the power company. During the winter half of the year, from October 16 to April 15, it is from 7 am to 9 am on weekdays only. No problem for us. We didn't want to get up that early. During the summer half of the year, from April 16 to October 15 the on-peak time is from 3 PM to 6 PM. When we were planning and building the wind tunnel, the summer on-peak time was from 4 PM to 7 PM, not so bad. From our opening until 12-14-2010, it was from 2 PM to 7 PM, terrible for our business. We are very happy about this recent change.
If at any time during a month we operate for 30 minutes at full power during on-peak time, it will add a $30,000 peak demand charge to our bill. Our typical power bill is only 1/4 that.

If you want to pay the extra cost, in advance, $1000 a minute, we will fly you during peak demand time. There is a 5 minute, $5000 minimum. The following offer is only valid for the first three weeks of a month. If you buy a full half hour, $30,000, we will give you an additional hour of flight time free. Once we have collected $30,000 for the peak-demand charge, you can fly at any time during the remainder of the same month at our normal off peak rate. Note that this is based on the power company billing month, not the calendar month.
