The acoustic measurements accessed from this page were taken at or near the EXIT (where the air comes out of the machine) of the L-1 vertical wind tunnel located at Appalachian Amusement Center. This acoustic
energy, or noise, is produced by several sources. Air rushing through the net or nets produces high frequency noise. There is mechanical noise from the motor room and the rotation of the fan. There is noise coming
from struts and supports not yet covered with airfoil shapes and holes and corners not yet filled. Noise comes from the air rushing through the machine. Fliers also generate noise. The exit noise is closest to
the flight and spectator areas, and is the most difficult to attenuate. It is therefore very critical to site compatibility. Many locations will not allow a machine that generates too much noise. A higher quality
machine will produce less noise. A buyer should know how loud a machine will be. The L-1 design is very quiet. This information will demonstrate that, especially if compared to other machines.
