This chart shows the frequency spectrum of the noise emissions at the corner of the net of the L-1 Vertical Wind Tunnel located at Appalachian Amusement Center. The meter was located four feet above the southwest corner of the net with the transducer pointing toward the center of the net. This is almost an identical position to the 12-15-2003 test, except that that test was at the southwest corner. The other corner was used because there is now a cushion on the SW corner of the net that would have blocked the sound and caused a lower reading. The distance from the center of the net to the meter's transducer was 34 feet, 5 inches. There was no lower net during this test. The upper net was in place and therefore contributed some noise. I chose 500, 550, 600 and 650 RPM because 500 RPM is the slowest that will fly a small adult, while 650 RPM is the fastest we have turned the fan thus far.

These images shows the sound meter located at the corner of the net during the 3-24-04 test.
