This chart shows the frequency spectrum of the noise emissions in the Motor Room of the L-1 Vertical Wind Tunnel located at Appalachian Amusement Center. This will help in the selection of sound absorbing material to treat the motor room, and the determination of how much motor room noise contributes to the external emissions of the machine. These measurements duplicate the 2-2-2004 measurements when the fan blades were removed for inspection, except that the blades were installed. The meter was in the exact same position as it was a year ago. Those with a keen eye will see that the drive cooling fan noise is different. This is because we learned just two weeks ago that the drive came with the fans wired in reverse, blowing down into the cabinet rather than sucking the air up out the top. The fan now runs more quietly. The zero readings are frequencies whose level was below the range of the measurements and so did not register.

This image shows sound meter located directly in front of the drive control panel a year earlier. This position
was duplicated for these measurements.
